here goes.

1. As he sat watching, Jason wondered how much oil there was in the sweat that dripped from all the chiseled bodies on the green fields of war.

2. Helena put out the cigarette bud with her well worn combat boots. She looked up at the sun revealing the cut on her neck as she slowly exhaled the smoke and traced their shapes with her fingers.

3. A few stares or glares, the exchange of blows till bloodshed and a fair bit of cursing. Ed couldn’t tell apart friend or foe from the bloodied faces as he smiled and howled for it to go on forever.

4. This is the stuff of books and it’s predictable. Jules feared predictable.

5. Bully pressed his big hand into Jack’s soft face. He could feel Jack’s spit and the drop of sweat that went down the bridge of his nose tickled him as he shook his head with rage.

6. Lying on the wet ground of early morning, Jay wheezed with exhaustion. With pain, he managed a smile with bruised lips and laughed to the dark unknown till he cried.

7. Even though her hair covered half her face Anna closed her eyes and took a deep breathe as she felt the warm rays on her skin. She slipped her hand through her shirt and gently she placed it on her chest to feel her steady heartbeat for assurance.

8. Dee. Disgusted. She made a mental list of how to crush the pretty little thing that’s too busy fluttering eyes at boys to even notice her.

9. Stupid keys. Giles knew he wouldn’t be staring at the linoleum floor waiting for the nurse to fix his arm and the officer to be making fun of him if not for the keys.

10. Stop, drop and roll. Mike knew that but the pain burned through him, literally, and he could not remember.

11. He held the pen and traced the word name. Mark got stuck at the first box believing that Mark Johnson isn’t his name and looked around him suddenly filled with fear and desperation for an answer.

11. Sarah tapped on her silver bangle to the beat of the song in her head. “There’s no stopping us” she sang and smiled as she turned the door knob and felt the wind nudging and pushing her back.

    Good openers. Varied and interesting. Most have potential for good stories. Now, you just gotta watch that past tense, okay?
